Happy New Year!

The intent of this project was to create a bitchin' ass Christmas card, and practice some recent lessons on a full illustration. It ended up being more of a journey than I expected, and I didn't finish it in time. When I realized I wasn't going to make the deadline, I decided to step away for a couple days, and finish the image at my own pace. Here's the finished project, followed by some concept art I did before making the final image.

Agents of Christmas?  I liked the sound of it, inspired by how slick "Agents of SHIELD" sounds.  I also had "Guardians of the Holidays", but that was too much for me :)

Happy New Year everyone, and I hope your holidays were super awesome!

The original idea for Santa was a play off the T800 from T2, bad ass biker bot.  I didn't think it was gonna be epic enough so I scrapped it.

Stroll through the Woods

I was surfing the net looking at awesome art and getting inspired, and I came across One Pixel Brush .  While I definitely dig a lot of the stuff in their portfolio, I was extra excited to see that they shared some of their Photoshop brushes in their tutorials section.  I played around with a set and found several awesome brushes to add to my shitty set (and replace a bunch of the shittiest ones with).

It started as some random strokes with different brushes, then I saw something (I think a tree silhouetted in front of a glow, or something like that) so I kept going.

In the end, I found a guy strolling through the woods - or did he find me?

Initially, I wanted to sketch up a small environment to build in 3D.  Something easy enough to do on my own, at a nice pace, and eventually finish.

What I ended up with was 3 rough paintings of monster houses.  Now I'm not sure if I'll finish these paintings as their own thing, or if I'll just do one and figure out how to build it in 3D.

Or both, I don't know.

Frankenstein's Castle.  I thought maybe it'd be cool to have this castle built in the clouds, where it can harness the power of lightning for the mad genius's experiments:

Dracula's Castle.  Maybe Count Dracula is lonely, love just out of his reach, his survival depending on drinking anyone who gets close to him:

The Black Lodge.  What's it like outside the walls of the Black Lodge?  It feels like purgatory, or even hell to me, a place of isolation:
